Scientific studies on reproductive organ function have long declared that a penis of at least two inches would be sufficient to impregnate a woman, as well as to please her sexually, as the sensitive nerve clusters of the vagina are located solely from the entrance to about two inches in depth. Countless periodicals and testimonials from ladies also attest that the size of the instrument is not so important as how it is utilized, and that a man’s penis is far from the only part of the male anatomy that can provide a woman with sensual pleasure. Nonetheless, the obsession of societies both tribal and modern with penis size persists, and most men do not feel quite as masculine by comparison if they have been cursed with penises that are average or smaller. Cosmetic surgeons, ready to fill aesthetic needs both mundane and unusual, have developed several solutions for those who feel that they need a larger, thicker penis to please their mates or improve their self-confidence.

One method of penile enhancement is known as a ligamentolysis. It is based on the fact that one-third to one-half of the penis is located within the body, attached to the underside of the pubic bone region by two ligaments, the fundiform and the suspensory ligament. In particular, the suspensory ligament is responsible for the arching of the penis beneath the pubic bone. By severing this ligament, the penis is allowed to protrude completely forward, giving the impression that it has lengthened, when it has actually just become straighter. Weights are then suspended from the penis to prevent the severed ligament from healing again in a shorter configuration. The change in length may be up to two inches, but the results vary greatly between individuals, with some patients reporting little to no noticeable changes at all. The procedure also has a significant drawback. Patients who undergo this surgery will no longer be able to become truly erect, as even though the penis can elongate and sustain an erection, it will be unable to protrude forward, and will simply hang between the patient’s legs. Other minor disadvantages of this surgery include visible scarring and increased hairiness of the pubic region.

Another method involves the use of penile implants, inserted along the length of the penis, which can be inflated using an external pump located in the groin or scrotum region. This surgery is primarily therapeutic and in intended for men who are impotent or who have some form of erectile dysfunction. However, enlarged implants can be placed, which may increase the girth of the penis and stretch it out to be slightly longer. The main drawback of this procedure is that it applies unnatural strain on the tissues of the penis, which could lead to complications such as nerve damage or bruising.

Lastly, the penis can be enhanced using implants of fat cells taken from other parts of the body and injected beneath the penile skin tissue. This effectively improves the girth of the penis, but not its length. Since the penis normally contains little or no fat, this gives the penis a bizarre appearance, larger around the shaft than in the head area, which may also feel unusual. Also, since the fat does not attach itself to the underlying penile tissue, it may shift around away from the implanted area and even collect elsewhere, further deforming the penis and causing discomfort. A related procedure involves the injection of liquid silicon into the penis shaft, which provides a substantial increase in the volume of the penis, but is plagued by the same problems. Also, since silicone is not a natural substance in the body, it may cause side effects that include loss of sensation and the inability to engage in intercourse.
