There are different reasons that people have for the need of facelift. Many people undergo this procedure to look young and this is also an answer to other problems associated with facial skin. There are different types of facelifts and each has a different procedure.
One type is SMAS facelift. SMAS is the abbreviation for superficial musculo-aponeurotic system. This type is also referred to as traditional face lift. This type of facelift is done by cutting the skin and then pulling it back. The procedure of this type of facelift begins when an incision is made on the hairline. The cut made runs downwards passing near the ears. The surgeon after making the cut tightens the skin. The wrinkles on the face are completely removed.
The other type is deep plane facelift. This type of facelift is almost similar to SMAS. The only different is that there is some modification. In this type the surgeon makes a deep cut on the patient’s face. This type aims art tightening the sagging skin. This type is advantageous compared to SMAS. The surgeon separates the layers of facial muscles. This procedure is a bit risky as deep cuts may interfere with the functioning of nerves.
Temporal facelift is another type. This facelift concentrates on the area around the elbows. This type is a solution to patients who have their eyebrows dropping and getting closer to the eyes. The surgeon performs a procedure to lift the eyebrows to their normal place. The surgeon makes a cut on the sides of the eyebrows and lifts them.
Platysmaplasty is another type. This type is also referred to as submentoplasty. The procedure used by the dentists aims the platysma muscle. This muscle is found below the skin at the neck area. As people grow old there is development of some bands at the neck area. This lift aims at removing those bands. The surgeon separates the platysma muscle and the skin to remove those vertical bands.
Mid-face lift is a lift that aims at the cheekbones. This procedure is new. With age the skin tends to sag around the chick bones. This facelift is solution to such problems. This lift can be done alone or done together with SMAS. The surgeon makes an incision and pulls the sagging skin.
Subperiosteal facelift is another type of facelift that involves deep cutting of the skin. This type is much deeper than deep plane facelift. It is performed at the deepest layers of the face. Surgery is done just on the top of bones found on the face. It takes long to recover when this type of facelift is performed.
Mini facelift is also another type. There are several types of mini facelifts. Mini facelift take a short time to heal. This type is mostly common with young people. This is because their skin elasticity is good. This type involves just some portions of the face. Types of facelifts are therefore numerous.
